Hold your horses!

did you know...

  • Manure Management: Equestrians are expected to clean up after their horses.  Bag up the manure and toss it into the dumpster provided near the campground entry area.

  • Sites 1, 4, 5 have two corrals with easy access gates.

  • Sites 2, 3, 6 have one large (13x22) corral.

  • Pressurized drinking faucets are around the campground, but you cannot attach a hose to them.

  • If you cross highway 38, you'll find State land you can ride on also. These State Forest logging roads greatly increase the area to ride.

  • On highway 38 is an old, equestrian trailhead that can be used as an additional dispersed camp site (have permits onsite).  The site formerly at the SIMAR is no longer available for disperse camping.

  • There are two-track roads perfect for driving horses.

  • The Rousseau Bar is located near the campground, South on Dishneau Rd and a hitching rail will be installed for horses in 2025!

  • No animals allowed on the beach, but horses and dogs are welcome at the boat launch (sandy bottom lake).

  • Please do not ride groomed trails in winter, they are groomed for cross country skiers.

  • Managed by: USFS

  • Cared for by: MI-TRALE volunteers
